One of the newest printed patterns from In The Folds, the Collins Top is an excellent pattern to up your apparel sewing game, but shouldn't be your first apparel project.
The Collins Top is a loose-fitting trapeze-shaped top designed for woven fabrics. Its unique and compelling construction offers the opportunity to build your spatial proficiency, play with motifs, such as stripes and to get really grounded in sewing concepts. Perfect for everyday wear, it features a round neck, panel lines, a high-low hem and a center-back opening, with a button and loop closure. Due to its length, the Collins top is the perfect top to pair with skirts or trousers that sit on or above the natural waist.
Experience Level: You've completed our This is a Pattern class or equivalent, as well as a couple of other beginning apparel sewing projects. You feel comfortable with sewing terminology and are comfortable with pattern comprehension, tracing, and working with the spatial concepts of sewing.
- The Collins Top by In the Folds
- Recommended PRE-WASHED yardage ( see below for more information on fabric choices as it will determine the resulting silhouette) per your intended size.
- 3/8" button
Consider using light to mid-weight fabrics such as: linen, linen blends, cotton, gauze or chambray. For a softer silhouette, consider sateen, rayon, or viscose . Be careful if you are a beginner though, as these fabrics are a little trickier to sew.
Softer fabrics will drape over the bust (and create soft flowy sleeves), while stiffer fabrics will create a more voluminous and structured silhouette. Due to the number of panels in the Collins top, it is a great pattern for experimenting with color blocking and stripe direction
