make*do*mend: Special Edition Class - Scrap Magic with Blair Stocker - Saturday, March 24th 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Do you ever see those quilts that are made from scraps and you can hardly believe it? Well, now is your chance to start your own! Using the brilliant new ruler from our friend Blair Stocker of Wisecraft, you'll be able to see the value of your scrap fabrics to put them together in harmony. The Ruby Ruler is super handy when cutting your fabrics but supremely unique in that it leverages the same properties as Rubylith film, which artists and photographers have long used to analyze color value.
This class is great for those new to patchwork and also those that are looking to up their game when it comes to working with their scraps.
Bring your scraps and prepare to have some fun! In this dynamic, in which Blair
will guide students through how to use dark, medium, and light color value, using a tool she designed to aid students in understanding color value in their fabrics. It’s a fun way to rediscover all that fabric you have languishing on those shelves, and by the end of the class, you will be looking for even more scraps! Students will learn to make half square triangles and charm squares, then combine them to create a quilt design by “blindly” choosing from pre-sorted value piles. Blair covers “Patchwork 101”- efficient and safe rotary cutting, measuring, using a design wall, and general patchwork sewing.
